Master Builder

Member of the New Zealand Master Builders Federation

John S Macdonald Builder Ltd is a member of the New Zealand Master Builders Federation and John is currently the Vice President of Waikato Master Builders.

To become a Registered Master Builder, building experience, trade or professional qualifications and practical management experience are assessed. Workmanship is inspected and previous clients contacted to ensure the applicant's work is of a high standard and has satisfied clients' expectations.

Applicants must also provide evidence of financial responsibility including written references from their bank, accountant and building material suppliers.

Re-certification of members occurs regularly, with checks on financial viability and workmanship.

When you engage a Registered Master Builder, on a full contract, labour-only or additions and alteration, a Master Build Guarantee for either three or five years is available, covering defective workmanship, defects in materials and non-completions. The Guarantee offers peace of mind and a third party fund and disputes process. For example, in the event of a Registered Master Builder being unable to complete work, Master Build Services will find another member to complete the job, even assisting, if necessary, with any price variations up to 5% of the original contract price.

The Registered Master Builder offers you:

  • Master Build Guarantees on residential work
  • The protection of consumer friendly building contracts
  • Full support and backup from the members local association and the national Registered Master Builders Federation.

Benefits of Hotbioc Masonry Villas:

  • Durability: Does not rot, and is not attacked by insects.
  • Strength: Can be superior to other competitive materials and is capable of taking suspended concrete floors and many storeys. More resistance to moderate and severe earthquakes
  • Stiffness: Deflections are less than competing materials.
  • Cost: Competitive with other materials.
  • Sound: Sound transmission is low. Noise generation on floors is reduced.
  • Thermal: Concrete within the insulation and weathering envelope acts like a huge night store heater, reducing temperature fluctuations. Homes designed for energy saving and utilising concrete walls/floors is cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
  • Energy cost savings: Concrete-formed homes can utilise eaves for keeping solar gain small in summer and yet utilise north windows for solar gain in winter, hereby reducing energy costs.
  • Fire resistance: By using a non-combustible material, the chance of losing a home due to fire is reduced and the chance of a safe egress is increased.
  • Maintenance: As concrete is much more stable than other materials, it does not need to be decorated as often.
  • Design: Concrete homes are as easy for architects to design as other homes. The structural design is as quick and simple as for timber framing.
  • Appearance: Concrete homes retain their smart appearance longer than other homes, due to the durability of concrete and the long life that paint products enjoy on a concrete base. There is that special “look” of concrete most evident in the deep window reveals.
  • Dimensionally stable: Concrete does not warp, twist and lose its shape in the way timber does. This means no creaking.
  • Healthier: Easy to maintain constant, comfortable temperatures provide a healthier home for everyone, especially asthma sufferers. The lower humidity means an environment less suited to dust mites.
